Entrance Awards for New Students
Graduate Entrance Tuition Award (GETA) - Apply to Graduate Studies by February 1, 2018
The Department of Chemistry is allocated 1 to 2 Graduate Entrance Tuition Awards which is awarded to new, incoming domestic full-time funding-eligible graduate students who will begin their studies as of September of the upcoming academic session with an average of at least A- (or equivalent) in each of the last two years of study.
The amount of the award is equivalent to the current academic year's domestic tuition fee, to a maximum amount of the approved standard tuition fee for domestic Master's/Doctoral students.
2018-2019 Award Amount: $6414
Application Deadline: To be considered, please submit your completed SGS online application by February 1, 2018
The Department of Chemistry considers this award to be in addition to the minimum guaranteed stipend.
Queen's Tri-Agency Recipient Recognition Awards (TARRAs) - Apply to Tri-Council by Specific Deadline
The TARRA provides a one-time only award for all new graduate students holding new Tri-Agency awards valued between $17,500 and $35,00.
New Master's students enrolled in OR starting year 1 of their Master's program in the current academic year, who start their new awards from NSERC or CIHR no later than 4 months after their initial registration in their Master's programs at Queen's University will be given $5,000.
New Doctoral students enrolled in OR starting year 1 of their Doctoral program who start their new awards from NSERC or CIHR no later than 4 months after their initial registration in their Doctoral programs at Queen's University will be given $10,000.
These awards are granted for the first year of registration only, and is not renewable
Arthur B. McDonald Prize for Academic Excellence - Deadline: December 1, 2017 for PhD; January 5, 2018 for MSc
The Arthur B. McDonald Prize for Academic Excellence (AEA) recognizes excellence and research potential of applicants who will begin their graduate degree programs in the School of Graudate Studies at Queen's in 2018-19. It is named in honour of Queen's University Professor Emeritus Arthur McDonald, co-winner of the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physics.
Value of the Award: $15,000 for MSc and $30,000 for PhD. The award is non-renewable and awarded in the first year of studies only.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada
- Applicants who have achieved a first-class average (equivalent to an A- or better at Queen's), in each of the last two completed years of study (full-time equivalent)

If you have not applied to the 2018-2019 CGS-M competition, but you meet the AEA eligibility criteria - Complete and submit the "Arthur B. McDonald Prize for Academic Excellence" online application and complete your application to graduate studies at Queen's including all required documentation by January 5, 2018.
For PhD Applicants:

If you have applied to either the SSHRC or NSERC 2018-2019 Doctoral Scholarship Competition or to the 2017 CIHR Doctoral Research Award Competition through Queen's - No action is required, your application will be automatically considered for an AEA

McDonald Prize for Academic Excellence" online application and complete your application to graduate studies at Queen's including all required documentation by December 1, 2017.
Notification of Outcome: All applications will be reviewed and you will receive notification of the outcome no later than February 27, 2018.
Departmental Awards
1960's Scholarship (Chemistry)
The 1960's Chemistry Scholarship was established in January 2010 by members of the chemistry classes of the 1960's to acknowledge the outstanding education they received in the Chemistry Department of Queen's University and to commemorate the wonderful teachers they had in their years in the Department of Chemistry at Queen's. The scholarship is awarded to a master's student, who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, enrolled in the first year of the graduate program in Chemistry at Queen's University. The recipient will be deemed the best applicant to the graduate program in the department in the current application/admission cycle, based on the strength of the applicant's academic record and letters of recommendation.
Value: $2,500 (minimum)
McAdie Chemistry Doctoral Student Award
The McAdie Chemistry Doctoral Student Award was established in March 2006 by Dr. Harry McAdie, M.A. 1954, Ph.D. 1956, in memory of his supervisor, Professor Grenville B. Frost, teach, mentor and friend. Dr. McAdie received the first Ph.D. in Chemistry at Queen's University in 1956. Awarded on the basis of academic merit to a student enrolled in the first year of the Doctoral program in Chemistry at Queen's, who obtained a baccalaureate degree at a Canadian university. Preference will be given to Canadian citizens or permanent residents.
