Face-centered Cubic (fcc)
alias Cubic Closest Packing (ccp)

• Like Simple-cubic structure but with an extra point in the centre of each cube face. 
  •  Three vectors of length a (cell dimension = a × a × a).
  •  Vector angles are all 90º.

• The face centred cubic (fcc) lattice, has 4 points associated with its unit cell. 
  • The corner points:                 8×1/8= 1 
  • The face-centred points:        6×1/2= 3 . 
  •                                        total         =4
• An alternate name for the face centred cubic lattice is the cubic closest packing (ccp).  This is one of two closest-packing structures.

  • layers alternate a - b - c.  
• Coordination number = 12 (number of nearest neighbors).
