Research projects in the areas of applied colloid, ceramic, polymer and asphalt science and engineering are ongoing in our group. We are investigating the low temperature fracture behavior of engineered asphalt materials with a special emphasis on polymer modified asphalt binders, which are promising materials for the construction of future highways. A second project is in collaboration with the Xerox Research Centre of Canada and investigates the aggregation of polymer colloids for the production of narrow dispersity composite particles, which can be used in a variety of useful applications. A third area of research, in which we collaborate with the Physics Department at Queen's focuses on the colloidal processing of ceramic dispersions to manufacture high quality electrical and structural ceramic bodies and thin films.
