Hi, I’m Kevin and I’m working on my doctoral program here in Mike Baird’s Lab. I’m originally from a quaint town west of here called Toronto where one day a Stanley Cup trophy will be hoisted (hopefully during my lifetime). There I spent summers playing baseball and golf and winters on the ice where I played goalie. I went on to do my undergrad in chemistry at Laurier, the tiny school right next to Waterloo. There I got to work in the burgeoning field of nanomaterials for my thesis project. In short, I got to make red gold. Here at Queen’s I am
currently a doctoral student
working on the synthesis of ruthenium complexes of a new class of planar
prochiral ligands (phosphonium
1-indenylides; see Mike's home page)
which show potential for interesting catalytic applications.
