Queen's Mass Spectrometry
and
Proteomics Unit
(MSPU)
The Queen’s Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics Unit (MSPU)
currently consists of four major mass spectrometry instruments,
an Applied Biosystems Qstar XL QqTOF mass spectrometer with
matrix assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI) source and
electrospray ionization source (ESI), a GC-TOF mass
spectrometer, a single quadrupole ZQ-LC/MS mass spectrometer and
an Applied Biosystems Voyager DE STR MALDI-TOF mass
spectrometer. A fifth mass spectrometer that has state of the
art capabilities for protein and biomolecule work will soon be
added to the MSPU infrastructure thanks to a CFI-LOF grant . The
MSPU is managed by an Executive Board comprising representatives
from the Chemistry Department, the Queen’s Protein Function
Discovery Group and the VP (Research) Office. The daily
operation of the unit is overseen by Dr. Jiaxi Wang, the
manager of MSPU, with the assistance of MS technicians. This
facility provides MS services and expertise for the analysis of
small and macromolecules, proteins and enzymes to both users in
the Queen’s community and from other institutions and industry.
The current users of this facility include Queen’s researchers
from Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Chemistry, Chemical
Engineering, Geological Sciences, Immunology, Pharmacology,
Microbiology, Pathology and Molecular Medicine, and a large
number of researchers from various industries and other
universities. For further information concerning the services
provided by this facility, please contact Dr. Jiaxi Wang via email (jiaxi.wang@chem.queensu.ca)
or phone (613 533 6000, extension 74253).
