Sessions ScheduleFor the safety of all students, we have several training sessions that all students will be expected to take. The first is a lab-specific session to be held in the first week of classes in your regular lab slot, in the lab itself. The second is a more official training called "Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System" (WHMIS). All employees must complete this training, and as far as Occupational Health and Safety (government) is concerned, you are an employee. There will be 4 sessions where WHMIS training will be given to all first year students. These sessions are TBA. You MUST attend one of these sessions or you will not be allowed to attend the labs. Please bring your safety manuals, which you received with your lab manuals to the WHMIS training session. These 4 special sessions for Chem 112 students are in CHE AUD. You must attend the session according to your class section as the room holds exactly enough students for one section only. Class Section A Wednesday 23-SEP 6-8 pm Class Section B Wednesday 23-SEP 8-10 pm Class Section C Thursday 24-SEP 6-8 pm Class Section D Thursday 24-SEP 8-10 pm All sessions are in CHE Aud. If you have a conflict with these sessions, there will be a second set of sessions held at 6-8 pm in STI D. on Wednesday 30-SEP and Thursday 1-OCT. These sessions are open to anyone who was unable to attend the scheduled sessions the previous week. There will be an exam at the end of this session and you MUST pass the exam and receive your WHMIS certificate in order to continue in the course.
If you are
unable to attend your assigned session, then you will have to
attend one of the regularly scheduled training sessions
through Environmental Health and Safety. If you missed the dedicated sessions and were therefore required to complete of one of these extra sessions to receive of your certificate, you will need to show your certificate to the Undergraduate assistant in the Chemistry General office (CHE200) so she can properly record your completion and allow you to complete the course. If you do not do this by the end of October, you will be asked to drop the course immediately. You will be able to see that you have received credit for your WHMIS course by logging into the marks database. An entry therein will show a score of 1 if you have attended and successfully completed the quiz and 0 otherwise.
