Recreation
Kingston is a popular tourist destination and offers many opportunities for recreation.- Fort Henry is a British fortress which was built during the war of 1812. Today, it doubles as a spectacular historic site and as a museum.
- The Thousand Islands National Park can be reached by boat cruises or rented watercraft from downtown Kingston
- The Rideau Canal National Historic Site is a World Heritage site and offers beautiful kayaking and canoeing. Kayak and canoe rentals are possible from different locations in Kingston.
- Frontenac Provincial Park is located a 45 min scenic drive north of Kingston and offers excellent hiking, canoeing (rentals on site) and fishing.
- Bellevue House was in 1848-49 the residence of Sir John A. Macdonald, Canada's first prime minister. It is a national historic site and within a 10 min walk from the conference site.
- Kingston's City Hall and Public Market is well worth a visit - especially during the Arts and Crafts market days.
- Sailing and windsurfing is excellent on Lake Ontario. Kingston has arguably the best freshwater sailing conditions in North America and hosted the 1976 Olympic sailing events.
