Scope of the meeting

The 2011 User Meeting and Summer School on cavity enhanced spectroscopy builds on the success of eight Cavity Ring-Down User Meetings that were held in Europe between 2000 and 2009.

This is the first of these meetings outside Europe and it also expands the scope beyond cavity ring-down spectroscopy to include other cavity-enhanced spectroscopic techniques.

The user meeting is directed to the industrial and university researcher who is interested in deepening his/her knowledge on cavity enhanced spectroscopic methods. Newcomers to the field and those who are curious about the capabilities of cavity enhanced spectroscopy may also be interested in attending the one-day summer school at no extra charge. The summer school precedes the meeting and takes place in the same location on Sunday June 26th, 2011.

Topics of the meeting include but are not limited to:

·         Cavity ring-down spectroscopy in its many forms and applications

·         Optical frequency combs in cavity enhanced spectroscopy,

·         NICE-OHMS and related techniques

·         Incoherent broadband CEAS,

·         Laser locking to cavities,

·         “Unusual” optical cavities, such as those made of prisms, fibers, and monolithic resonators

The user meeting (June 27th - 29th, 2011) is held at Queen's University in Kingston, Canada. The historic and picturesque city of Kingston is easily reached from Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa. Kingston and the Queen's Campus are a popular tourist destination. Kingston's location, close to a number of provincial and national parks such as the 1000 Island National Park, permits many outdoor activities.
